Elite In-Season Tournaments Set to Kick-Off 2017

The following non-conference tournaments get the 2017 season started with a bang. Many teams from last year’s final top 25 will be competing in these tournaments looking to continue their recent success, while the others look to turn things around and start the year off right. Check out the links below to get information on each of these events. The information will be updated, if necessary, as the season approaches.

February 3-5

Desert Stinger Softball Tournament <

One-third of the teams competing in the Desert Stinger Softball Tournament reached the National Tournament in 2016. Azusa Pacific, Cal Baptist, Chico State, Sonoma State, and Texas Woman’s all made the tournament before bowing out in Regionals. Central Washington made it to the “Sweet 16,” West Texas A&M made it to the “Elite 8,” and Humboldt State made it to the national finals, dropping 2 out of 3 to North Alabama. The games take place in Las Vegas, NV at the Majestic Park, which offers one of the very best backdrops in all of softball.

Southeastern Regional Invitational <

Ten teams will be competing in this year’s Southeastern Regional Invitational, hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State. The field is comprised of 4 teams out of the GAC (Arkansas Tech, Henderson State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, and Southwestern Oklahoma State), 5 teams from the MIAA (Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, Emporia State, Missouri Southern State, and Pittsburg State), and 1 team representing the Heartland Conference (Oklahoma Christian). Arkansas Tech and Central Oklahoma both went to the National Tournament in 2016, with ATU making it to the final sixteen. The games are held at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex in Durant, OK.

SAU Softball Invitational <

Southern Arkansas hosts Newman (Heartland Conference), Tarleton State (LSC), Texas A&M-Commerce (LSC), and Washburn (MIAA) to kick-off their 2017 campaign. Southern Arkansas enters the year with high hopes to improve on their 2016 run to the Final Four. Texas A&M-Commerce made the 2016 national tournament, as well, becoming the first team in Division II history to make the NCAA postseason in only their first two seasons. The event takes place in Magnolia, AR at the Mulerider Softball Complex.

Eckerd College Spring Invitational <

Eckerd welcomes Chadron State and fellow Sunshine State Conference members Florida Southern, Saint Leo, and Tampa to Clearwater, FL this year. #17 Saint Leo will look to get their season off to a fast start like they did in 2016, when they began the year 14-0.
